Emmet Cohen Trio | Half Note Jazz Club - Athens
Friday, March 31 - Monday, April 3, 2023
7:00PM (GMT+2)

The multi-talented improviser and virtuoso, pianist (and organist!), composer, bandleader and teacher Emmet Cohen, is undeniably one of the most interesting and fresh presences in the jazz scene! The famous recent live from his home in New York (!) "Live from Emmet's Place" during the pandemic and lockdown, in many cases exceeded one million views!! This new rapidly rising star of the scene, who in the last decade fascinates with everything he does, appears for the first time in Greece with his excellent trio, of course on the Half Note stage.

Emmet Cohen was born in 1990 in Miami, Florida and started playing the piano at the age of three with the Suzuki method! Later, at the age of 11 the family moved to N. Jersey where he began private lessons with great teachers. While in high school he was taught classical music at the Manhattan School of Music but also at the Lincoln Center program for young artists and slowly began to find space and play in New York clubs with great musicians. His first recording of his personal album "In the Element" was when he was still at the Frost School of Music. But what launched him is his successful presence as a winner or finalist in many prestigious piano competitions. He starts collaborations with great artists of the field such as Christian McBride, Ali Jackson, Herlin Riley or Brian Lynch and everything comes completely naturally. Along the way he would collaborate with Joe Lovano, Sheila Jordan, Eddie Henderson, Houston Person, Kurt Elling and many others. His own form is usually in the form of a trio and with this he now appears at the biggest music festivals in the world but at the same time he is the music director of Veronica Swift's form and a member of Christian McBride's “Tip City” Trio! Cohen has an excellent, especially fresh sound and playing that is full of technique, with an inexhaustible tonal palette and an incredible repertoire, which at the same time respects the tradition of the music. During these more than 10 years of continuous and extremely full presence in the music scene, he recorded ten personal albums, some of which, under the title Master Legacy Series, featured jazz legends such as Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Benny Golson, George Coleman or Albert “Tootie” Heath. Particularly active on social media and apart from the awesome live streaming from his home during the pandemic and other initiatives, Emmet Cohen is also very active giving online piano lessons.

Rendezvous with Emmet Cohen and his amazing musicians Philip Norris & Kyle Poole, will have the Greek audience for the first time from March 31 to April 3, not at the artist's house (!) nor virtually, but as if at home, in the welcoming i.e. Half Note Jazz Club stage! But the appointment will actually be with a leading artist who is the present and the future of the modern jazz pianist's perception. We're waiting with anticipation ….
