Kenny Broberg

Thursday, January 19, 2023
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (PST)

Hailed as a pianist capable of "pulling a palette of moods from every register" (Indianapolis Star), Kenny Broberg brings his inventive, intelligent and intense performance style to The Reser stage.

In this program of works tracing a line between romanticism and modernism, Franck's Prelude, Fugue, and Variation in B Minor offers listeners an emotional sweep that belies the work's formal title, while Chopin's Ballade No. 4 in F Minor evokes the candlelit salons of 19th-century Paris. Closing the program is Nikolai Medtner's "Night Wind" Sonata — an unceasing frenzy of nightmarish music that tests both the physical limits of the piano and the emotional limits of the pianist.

FRANCK Prelude, Fugue, and Variation in B Minor, op. 18, FWV 30

CHOPIN Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, op. 52

MEDTNER Sonata No. 7, op. 25, The Night Wind

Kenny Broberg is the winner of the 2023 American Pianists Awards
