Saturday MountainTop Masterworks III: Mozart & Michelle Merrill

Sunday, July 24, 2022
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Dunlop Pavilion 39 Mountain Inn Loop Wintergreen Resort, VA, 22967 United States

2013 American Pianists Awards winner Sean Chen
Michelle Merrill, conductor

Beginning with Jessie Montgomery’s charming and colorful Strum, this concert will echo perfectly throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. We welcome acclaimed pianist, Sean Chen, to the stage for Dmitri Shostakovich’s humorous, dark, and exciting first piano concerto, under the direction of Maestra Michelle Merrill alongside trumpeter David Vonderheide and the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra. To honor the late Michael White – composer, teacher, consummate Mozart fan, and beloved friend of Wintergreen Music – this concert is specially programmed with Mozart’s “Great G minor Symphony,” rustling underpinnings, brooding melodies, and a fiery finale worthy of Don Giovanni himself.

Concert Program:

 Strum by Jessie Montgomery

Concerto in C Minor No. 1 for piano, trumpet, and string orchestra, op. 35 by Dmitri Shostakovich

   Sean Chen, piano

   Dave Vonderheide, trumpet

intermission

Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
