Grand Encounters 23/24

Grammy Award-winning pianist Bill Charlap returns to Indianapolis after hosting the 2023 American Pianists Awards Gala Finals, bringing his lauded trio of over twenty years. The AP notes the trio, “…formed in 1997 and has become a sure thing, releasing a succession of excellent albums.”

Born in New York City, Charlap’s father was Broadway composer Moose Charlap, whose credits include Peter Pan, and his mother is singer Sandy Stewart, who appeared on the Ed Sullivan and Perry Como shows. This exposure to multiple genres may be why DownBeat magazine writes of Charlap, “his repertoire is a special bonus.”

This concert is sponsored by William and Susan Kleinman.
